Patriotism

(309 words, 9 paragraphs, 29 lines)

Introduction: Patriotism consists in love for one’s own country. It is a sterling quality of man. He who has no love for his motherland is a man only by name. In fact he is inferior to a beast. A beast comes to some use to its place of birth. But a man who does not love his country is of no use to her.

Interest of the country: Every man should have great love for his country. He should not live for his own interest being blind to the interest of his country. He must place the interest of his country above everything. He should bear in mind that motherland is superior to heaven. So the poet has said:

Breathes there the man with soul so dead

Who never to himself hath said,

This is my own, my native land.

A patriot is proud of his country: In this world there is no man who is not proud of his country. A true patriot does everything for the betterment of his country. He also serves as the source of inspiration to others. There is no man whose heart is not filled with great joy when he walks homeward after travelling in a foreign country.

An unpatriotic man: An unpatriotic man lives the life of an animal. He does nothing for his country and countrymen. So when he dies, he is forgotten even by his dear and near ones. He is not respected by anybody.

Danger of narrow patriotism: We should not indulge in narrow patriotism. It is a positive danger. It provokes ill feelings between two countries and often leads to war. We should love our country and have love and respect for other countries too.

Conclusion: We must love our country and be ready to sacrifice our lives for her. But we should never indulge in narrow patriotism.
