Chemistry in Laughter and Tears

Laughter and tears are inextricably linked in our lives. We smile when we are happy and cry when we are sad. This matter of laughing and crying is usually incident-centered. For example, if someone in front of us does something funny or says something funny, we laugh. Conversely, if something happens to us that causes us pain, we cry.

But a person can smile or laugh without any incidental laughter or tears. When is that?

Suppose everyone is having a lot of fun, singing and dancing but you are sitting in one corner. Their joy cannot touch you. For some reason you are sitting down. Then a friend of yours tries to make you laugh by saying various funny things. And that made you laugh for a while. Isn't that so? Yes it is!

Apart from your friend, there is another thing that can make you laugh. There is also a system to make you cry without any trouble. Let's see what they are-

Laughing gas-

The chemical name of this gas is nitrous oxide. It is a colorless gas with a mild sweet smell. Joseph Priestley discovered this gas in 1975, as different opinion, Humphrey Davy discovered this gas. This gas mainly acts as a pain reliever. If this gas enters with someone's breath, it instantly travels through the blood to the brain, creating a kind of euphoria and causing the person to laugh. Since this gas can make people laugh, it is named 'laughing gas'.

Tear gas-

Another name for this gas is chloropicrin. If its gas comes into the eyes, the eyes will feel burning sensation and tears will come. Its effect lasts for a maximum of 45 minutes. As a result, the eyes reach the stage of blindness for some time. This gas is generally used by law enforcement forces to control various riots and prevent various untoward incidents. This gas was also used in the First World War.

This natural phenomenon of laughing and crying can also be done artificially, where the role of laughing gas and tear gas is significant. So we can jokingly say that chemistry can make us laugh or cry.
