A National Festivity: The Independence Day
(330 words, 7 paragraphs, 31 lines)
Introduction: The Independence Day is a national festival. It comes off on the 26th March every year. On this day in 1971 the independence of Bangladesh was declared. So this day is called the Independence Day. It is a red-letter day in the history of Bangladesh. This day is celebrated every year in a befitting way all over the country.
Preparation: This year we celebrated the national day in our school. I got up early in the morning and arrived at school just after sunrise. All the teachers and the students also gathered at the school premises.
How observed: We all stood in a semi-circle before the flag-mast. As our Headmaster hoisted the flag, we all shouted 'Allahu Akbar' at the top our voice. Then our Headmaster gave a short but instructive speech. He said that we should hold the national flag in highest esteem. After the hosting of the flag, we went out in a big procession and marched along the road. After half an hour we came to the school field and gathered there. There we gave demonstrations of physical feats. The guests present highly praised us.
Speeches on the occasion: We met in a meeting in the hall-room of our school. The local elite and gentlemen attended it. The students kept quiet and listened to the speeches delivered by our Headmaster, some of our teachers and a few of the local elite. They all spoke brilliantly.
Sports and games held: Then the sports meet began at 9 a.m. Under the blazing sun all the items of sports were very enjoyable. At 4.30 p. m. a friendly football match was played between our school team and the outsiders. Hundreds of spectators witnessed the game and enjoyed it with keen interest.
Prayers in our mosques: Special prayers for the prosperity of our country were said in all our mosques.
Conclusion: At sunset the school-house was illuminated with hundreds of lighted candles. Thus we observed the national day with joy.
