Television

(245 words, 4 paragraphs, 23 lines)

Introduction: The term 'tele' means 'distance' and 'vision' means 'sight. Thus television means sight from a distance. Television is a system which employs mechanical photo-electrical and wireless processes for reproducing scenes, objects, talks and songs at a distance.

A wonderful gift of science: Television is a wonderful gift of science. An English scientist named ‘Beyard’ invented the television in 1926. In mechanism it is the combination of radio and of the cinema. In the radio we can hear the voice of the speakers and singers. But in television the vision is telecast along with the transmission of the voice. So we can see the vision of the persons doing things at a distance and also hear their voice. In cinema we see pictures reproduced on the screen by radiography but in television we can see the actual persons and events.

Usefulness: Through television we can get the news and see the events of any part of the world. Thus we can know how developments are taking place in other countries. Through television we can see persons and hear their voices. So it is both interesting and effective. It is a powerful means for keeping the knowledge and skill of people up-to-date in all the fields of learning. It also provides excellent recreation when we are tired and exhausted.

Conclusion: Thus television is an effective instrument of entertainment as well as a valuable medium of instruction. It is indeed the most wonderful invention of science today.
